Gecko's top 5 wedding bugbears
We're bored of seeing the same mistakes being made at weddings. Don't be one of these people and do it right!
1. Hiring a mate to do a professionals job
Yes, weddings are expensive, and the main expense is people! Booking a friend to be your band, photographer or make your cake might sound like a great money saving shortcut, but no-one want to eat a heavy cake, listen to an out of tune instrument and did you really want that soft focus over all of your photos?
Friends are awesome, let them enjoy your day and leave the work to the people who do it for a living.
2. Too Many Guests
If you have loads of friends there is no harm in wanting to celebrate with them, but do they all need to be there all day? too many guests slows down the flow of wedding day and can lead to a long dinner service meaning less time actually partying with the people you love.
Split your guests up into daytime and evening guest.
3. Leaving it late
Thinking you should book your wedding band 6 months before they? WRONG! Our wedding bands get booked 18 months or more before the date. This is same with a lot of suppliers so make sure you get who you want by booking them early! You can see a full wedding planning guide here.
4. Over scheduling & micromanaging
Weddings are fluid and rarely run to the timings you expect. This is not something to worry about, it is not something to stress about an is not something that every single one of your suppliers will be phased by. If you have booked 3 minutes for a bathroom break, that is fine for a guest in his suit. But have you then tried to do that with 50 men in suits, and then 50 women in dresses and oh yes, you in you wedding dress. It might take 3 people to help you, so be realistic with your timings.
5. Be specific
Don't sign a catering contract that lacks the detail for all the food, drink, and what is included. Likewise don't book a band without agreeing what time they will turn up, what they are wearing, whether they are playing your first dance and what time they will finish. This works both ways too, don't sign on the dotted line and then expect more than what you have signed for, it just won't happen.
